# Connect your AI agent (MCP)

Drilify can connect to a supported AI assistant over MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard for letting an assistant read data from another service. Once connected, your assistant can read the research and account data you have already saved in Drilify, so you can ask questions in plain language instead of clicking through pages.

## What it does

A connected assistant can read the Drilify data you have approved it to see: your account and plan summary, saved product and shop research, saved store and review reports, collections, listings, orders, and similar stored results.

What it cannot do is just as important. A connected assistant cannot run new analyses, track products, change your store or listings, send messages, buy anything, or change your plan or billing. It is a read-only view of work you have already done in Drilify, and your normal plan and feature limits still apply to every read.

## Before you start

You need three things:

- **An active paid Drilify plan.** Agent access requires a paid subscription (Launch, Scale, or Dominate); trial accounts are not eligible. A paid plan does not override a paused subscription or an account restriction.
- **A supported MCP client.** We have verified the connection flow with ChatGPT. Other MCP-compatible assistants that support remote servers may work the same way, but are not yet verified by us.
- **Your Drilify sign-in.** You approve access yourself through a normal Drilify sign-in and consent screen. You never paste your Drilify password or session into the assistant.

## How to connect

:::steps
### Open Agent Setup
In your Drilify dashboard, go to **AI tools → Agent Setup**.

### Copy the server URL
Copy the MCP server URL shown there: `https://www.drilify.com/api/mcp`

### Add it in your assistant
Paste the URL into your assistant's MCP or connector settings (for example, ChatGPT's connector or developer settings). With supported clients this is all you need - no client IDs, secrets, or callback URLs to configure yourself.

### Sign in and approve
Your assistant will ask you to sign in to Drilify and show you the exact read permissions it is requesting. Review them and approve. You can approve all requested permissions or only the ones you choose.

### Ask a question
Back in your assistant, ask something about your Drilify data. If the connection worked, it will answer from your saved research.
:::

If your client cannot find the server after pasting the URL, check that the address was copied exactly, that the client supports remote MCP servers, and that discovery is enabled in its settings. If it still fails, contact support with the client name and version.

## Good first questions

These prompts are examples of what a connected assistant can answer. Whether a specific read works still depends on your plan, feature access, and approved permissions:

- "Summarize my Drilify plan and remaining credits."
- "Compare the products I saved to my collections this week."
- "Which store reports have I saved, and what did the latest one find?"
- "Show me my saved ad analyses for skincare products."
- "What orders do I currently have in progress?"

A good rule: if the answer would come from data you already ran or saved in Drilify, the agent can probably read it. If it requires running something new, use the Drilify dashboard instead.

## Privacy and control

- **Least access:** the consent screen shows the specific read permissions requested. Approve only what you are comfortable with; you can disconnect and reconnect with fewer permissions.
- **Stays excluded:** agents never see your password, payment details, or data outside your approved permissions, and they can never change your account.
- **See and remove access:** every connected agent appears under **Dashboard → AI tools → Agent Setup**. Select **Disconnect** to remove its access immediately.
- If your paid plan ends or your account is restricted, agent access stops with it.

## What it costs

Agent access uses your normal Drilify plan and credit policy - there is no separate MCP subscription.

Right now, stored reads through a connected agent do not carry a separate per-call credit charge. We plan to introduce small per-call credit costs for agent reads (a few shared credits depending on the type of read) as part of an upcoming update. This guide and the consent screen will be updated when that change goes live. See [Pricing & Plans](https://www.drilify.com/en/documentation/pricing-and-plans) for how plans and credits work.

## Troubleshooting

- **"Agent connections are currently unavailable for your account."** Your plan may not include agent access, or the feature is temporarily unavailable. Check [Billing & Credits](https://www.drilify.com/en/documentation/billing) for your plan status.
- **The assistant cannot find or connect to the server.** Confirm the URL is exactly `https://www.drilify.com/api/mcp` and that your client supports remote MCP servers, then try adding it again.
- **"Permission denied" or an empty answer.** The agent asked for a read outside its approved permissions, or a feature your plan does not include. Reconnect with the needed permission or check your plan.
- **The agent says you have no saved results.** Agents can only read data you have already run or saved. Run the analysis or save the item in Drilify first.
- **A connection disappeared from Agent Setup.** Disconnected or expired connections are removed automatically. Connect again if you still need it.
- **"Not enough credits."** Once per-call credit costs are enabled on your account, agent reads need sufficient shared credits. Wait for your cycle to reset or manage usage in [Billing & Credits](https://www.drilify.com/en/documentation/billing).

If none of these help, contact support from the dashboard and include which assistant you are connecting and what you were trying to read.

:::callout info About provider steps
Assistant settings screens and MCP setup steps change as providers update their products. The steps above reflect the current verified flow; if a provider screen looks different, the Drilify side (URL, sign-in, consent) stays the same.
